Recently I moved a hard drive from an older PC to a newer one.\u00a0 I attempted to delete the Windows and Program Files directories and was given this unfriendly message:<\/p>\n

Clicking continue fails with a message abut requiring permission from TrustedInstaller.<\/p>\n
<\/a><\/p>\n No need to Try Again, it won\u2019t work.<\/p>\n To fix this dilemma one needs to edit the properties of the folder twice.\u00a0 Once to obtain ownership and secondarily to set full control permissions.<\/p>\n Start with right clicking on the folder from explorer and selecting properties:<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n and on the security tab click Advanced near the bottom.<\/p>\n Switch to the Owner tab and click Edit\u2026<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Highlight your user account in the Change owner\u00a0to: section and click on Replace owner on subcontainers and objects as shown below:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Click Apply and wait for the Windows Security dialog changing ownership of to finish.\u00a0 Once finished you will be presented with this dialog:<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Click OK and OK and OK and OK (4 times) to close out of the properties windows.<\/p>\n Next, right click on the folder again; select properties again; go to the security tab again and click Advanced again (like in the instructions above).<\/p>\n From the Permissions tab (shown below), click on Change Permissions\u2026<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Next is displayed the Advanced Security Settings dialog:<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Click on Add\u2026 and fill out the Enter the object name to selected:<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n In the next dialog (Permission Entry) check Full control \u201cAllow\u201d as shown below.\u00a0 And you don\u2019t want to check \u201cApply these permissions to objects and\/or containers within this container only\u201d.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n After returning to the prior dialog and before clicking on Apply, make sure \u201cReplace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object\u201d is checked as indicated below:<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n The last step is to click Apply and agree to the following warning:<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n With the changes applied, you can click OK, OK, OK to close out of the open dialogs.<\/p>\n And now the folder can now be deleted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Recently I moved a hard drive from an older PC to a newer one.\u00a0 I attempted to delete the Windows and Program Files directories and was given this unfriendly message: Folder Access\u00a0Denied Clicking continue fails with a message abut requiring permission from TrustedInstaller.
