When using remote desktop into a Windows 7 machine, the start menu changes to have the options Log off, Disconnect and Lock.  Sometimes doing a restart/reboot of the machine is necessary.  To restart the system, launch a command prompt in administrator mode and issue the following command:

shutdown /r /f

issuing shutdown /? will display the entire list of command-line options:
